Craniosacral Therapy / Neurovascular Integration
relax, restore & renew
Craniosacral therapy supports the body's natural healing forces and the release of long held tension patterns. The therapist uses a gentle and informed touch to track and support the flow and function of the cerebrospinal fluid, which nourishes the brain and spinal cord. The free flow of blood, lymph, and the overall energy nourishing bones, muscles, organs, and the full nervous system is also supported. The result is a release of stress created from injury, trauma or dis-ease while increasing vitality and leaving one feeling balanced, grounded and connected.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Craniosacral therapy session like?
During a session you will relax on a massage table and you will stay fully clothed throughout the session. You may want to wear comfortable clothing.
We will discuss your health history and concerns. I will begin and end the bodywork session holding your ankles noticing the overall fluid flow, observing areas that may be contributing to restrictive patterns in the body. With a sensitive and informed touch my hands may hold and support various areas of your body observing the function and flow of the various fluids in the body, supporting muscle/bone, organ/emotion, and energy/nervous system health. When the body is supported and given space to find its healthy flow of vitality patterns of restriction, pain, discomfort, and congestion dissolve, restoring health and balance throughout the body.
What will you feel during a session? This varies greatly between individuals. Some people may experience sensations of heat, tingling, increased relaxation, pressure changes, and abdominal gurgling. Many feel more quietly connected and aware.
How long is a session?
Typically sessions are one hour in length, although sessions may be scheduled for 11/2 or 2 hours if more time and concentration is desired.
Who may benefit from a session?Anyone wanting to improve the over all health and function of the body will benefit from a session. Craniosacral therapy is used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including: migraine headaches, sinus congestion, chronic neck and back pain, central nervous system disorders, brain and spinal cord injuries, chronic fatigue, emotional difficulties, stress and tension-related problems, fibromyalgia, and TMJ/jaw discomfort.
How many sessions do you need and how often should you come? This varies greatly between individuals and has many influencing factors. The over all goal of this work is to cultivate a vitality and flow of the fluids in the body, which nourish the health and function of all the bodies systems including vascular, visceral, nervous, lymphatic and musculoskeletal. This vitality of fluid and function allows the body to release holding patterns, while repairing and restoring the whole body. The number of sessions that support the body in this process depends on how long the restrictive patterns have been present, the over all health of the body, injuries, and the goals you may have. Often holding patterns in the body develop over many years so as a result it may take time for the body to build the resources needed to restore health and function that leads to greater freedom in body/mind.
Session scheduling varies from once a week to multiple sessions in one week’s time for those who seek intensive therapy, while others schedule every two weeks to once a month for maintenance sessions.
What effects may you experience after a session?
Each person is unique and therefore may have different experiences. People often report greater relaxation, decreased pain/discomfort, better breathing patterns, or feeling more centered/grounded while others “feel better” but are unable to describe specifically how. Some clients may not notice the subtle changes initially until they become more aware and connected to their body.
Because the work is subtle yet works on deep levels you may want to respect this process by not pushing your body directly after the session, you may find a quiet walk supports you rather than working out at the gym. There may be an adjustment time as your body lets go of holding patterns and finds a new way of health. Although it is not common, some people experience discomfort, fatigue or a feeling of achiness while their body is integrating the work, this usually passes within 1-2 days, and can be supported by rest and an increase in water consumption.
Over time as the body’s systems find greater flow and function, one may experience greater health, function and vitality of body, mind and spirit.
How much does a session cost?
