Yoga For A World Out of Balance
with Michael Stone Friday, April 9th-Sunday, April 11th
Michael Stone is a psychotherapist in private practice, lecturer,
yoga teacher and authour. He co-leads the Centre of Gravity Sangha, a
community of Yoga & Buddhist practitioners in Toronto and travels
internationally, teaching in academic, yoga studio and conference
settings. Michael offers courses and retreat that focus on
integrating yoga postures, breathing practices, meditation and
textual study. His research and teaching explore the intersection of
committed spiritual practice and social action.
Michael also teaches courses and workshops to clinicians (doctors,
nurses, psychiatrists, palliative care workers, psychotherapists)
that integrate Buddhist teachings and meditation practices with
contemporary approaches to clinical work. He runs the well respected
Leading Edge Mindfulness for Clinicians Course in Toronto as well as
training retreats.
Michael's academic background includes studies in psychology,
psychoanalysis, philosophy and comparative religion. He teaches yoga
in the tradition of Krishnamacharya and his principal teacher is
Richard Freeman. He has studied Ashtanga, Iyengar and other forms of
hatha yoga in depth as well as sanskrit and Indian philosophy.

Yoga and awakening?
What is meant by enlightenment in the yoga tradition and what does yoga have to say about healing both the internal world and our extended relationships? How does yoga practice bring ease into our lives and support us in taking ethical and responsive action? Michael will explore the basic teachings of yoga philosophy and how they come to life in the mind, body and culture in each and every moment. Michael can also sign copies of his two books.
Intelligent Vinyasa
Saturday, April 10th, noon-3:00 & 4:00-6:00 pm
We will explore the internal patterns of breath and movement that will make familiar postures come alive in new ways and we will also explore creative sequences of postures that link with one another creating spontaneous meditation. Excellent for beginners and teachers alike.
Backbends and Inversions
Sunday, April 11th, 9:00 am-noon
Sunday will focus on preparing the ground for backbends and inversions. Beginning one step at a time students will learn to create intelligent sequences and treat the asana as a form of pranayama and meditation.
**All of these classes are excellent for students of all levels as well as teachers interested in maturing their understanding of the depth of yoga postures and the philosophy that informs them.
The workshop is cumulative. Please join for the whole program.
